About this list and its sources
These 181 local service areas are an editorial grouping of neighborhoods, nearby towns and airports, not official boundaries or an exhaustive neighborhood registry. A broad practical Los Angeles vocabulary covering city neighborhoods and planning communities, the other incorporated municipalities in Los Angeles County, selected unincorporated communities, and regional airports. Areas overlap and neighborhood names do not determine municipal boundaries. Individual drivers choose where they work. Guidance: Los Angeles City Planning. The City Planning list groups many neighborhoods into combined community plans; this vocabulary separates recognizable names for driver selection. The 87 other Los Angeles County cities are municipalities, including outer Antelope Valley cities and Avalon on Catalina Island. Unincorporated county communities have their own label. Ontario and John Wayne airports are regional connections outside Los Angeles County; Van Nuys is a general aviation airport.
